Welcome to The Lord Nelson
Formally Nick’s restaurant, this originally timber framed building has been lovingly restored by Michael Thurlby and his team from Stamford. The 5 bedrooms have been stripped back to show many of its original features complimented with Farrow & Ball paint colours. They are now all drinking and eating rooms. The toilets originally downstairs have been moved upstairs to reveal the old kitchen of the house now with an Aga in the fire place and seating once again for informal drinking and eating. The former restaurant area has been tastefully changed into the bar area, keeping the open fireplace and original floorboards of the building. The rest will be up to you to see on your first visit!
The fine range of real ales
The pub has 5 hand pumps, including Fullers ‘London Pride’ and Castle Rock ‘Harvest Pale Ale’ and 3 guest ales rotated regularly. These tend to be from micro breweries the length and breadth of the country, plus a selection of old favourites from the regional and national brewers.
The food we serve is of the highest quality
We specialise in stone baked pizzas, cooked in specially imported Italian ovens, and we let you choose your own toppings, from the traditional to the slightly quirky! We also offer a selection of antipasto, snacks, main dishes, and daily and seasonal specials, using fresh and locally sourced ingredients. An impressive, and varied wine list, which regularly changes, displays the best of both the old and new world, and compliments both the food and the surroundings. We look forward to seeing you soon.
We work on a relaxed pub style experience. Come in and find a seat at your convenience and order from our bar area. We don't take reservations unless it is for a private function of 10 or more of which we ask guests to choose the buffet menu and reserve a room.
We understand that Oakham is a very family orientated town and therefore have introduced a new policy on children.
1. Well behaved children are allowed in before 8pm but are not allowed in the bar area.
2. Prams and pushchairs are allowed. All walkways, doorways and exits must be kept clear.
2. The building poses many risks to children. Parents are responsible for their children at all times. The pub is not suitable for children to run around.
The Lord Nelson operates an over 21's policy at the managers discression.
